All-Stars Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Is it mandatory to attend the tryout?
Yes, it is mandatory to attend the tryout on the specified date and time to be considered for selection to an All-Star team. No shows to tryouts will not be considered. Exception from participation in tryouts is if a player is injured but, will be medically cleared in time for the All-Star season. Attendance at the tryout is still mandatory if injured to be considered for selection to an All-Star team.
What are the fees associated with All-Stars?
Fees will be determined by the All-Star Committee of the current league year and will be announced when players register for All-Star Tryouts.
If my daughter participates in tryouts, do I have to pay the All-Star fees?
No, you will only have to pay for the fees when the All-Star Manager notifies families of their selection to the team.
If my daughter participates in tryouts, will she be on an All-Star team?
No, guarantee that your daughter will be selected for an All-Star team. Number of players selected will depend on number of All-Star Managers selected and dependent if a competitive All-Star caliber team can be filled.
If my daughter participates on a Select Team, will she be on an All-Star team?
No, it is not guaranteed that your daughter would make an All-Star team if she participated on a Select team during the Spring season.
How are All-Star teams chosen?
All-Star teams are formed by the Managers selected for their respective age division based on the scheduled tryout date. Each manager is to draft their team in the best way possible that they see fit in order to field a competitive team throughout the All-Star season. All rosters are sent to Executive Board for final approval for participation in the All-Star season.
How and when are Managers selected for the All-Star season?
Managers cannot be confirmed until the specified date that is outlined in USA Softball's yellow book. Those interested in Managing an All-Star will need to follow the requirements as outlined in the league rules for Bonita Valley. Coaching resumes will also need to be submitted within the prescribed window determined by the league. You will also be required to interview for the position before a panel for consideration. Once selected by the panel, managers names with their associated divisions will be sent to the Executive Board for confirmation. The aforementioned may change from year to year but those changes will be outlined on the website, social media outlets and the league rules.
If I submit a resume and or interview for an All-Star Manager position, will I get a team?
No. There is NO guarantee that based on resume submissions and interviews that a perspective manager will be chosen to manage an All-Star team. The chosen individuals are dedicated to first and foremost represent the league in the best way possible so as to promote a positive environment for the players involved and the leagues good standing and reputation within the softball community.
Can we fundraise for the fees associated with All-Stars?
Any kind of fundraising for All-Stars will not commence prior to selection on a team. Fundraising will be coordinated through the respective All-Star team. Fundraising prior to tryout registration intent and or tryouts and or selection of a team will jeopardize the eligibility of the player and or person interested in participation on an All-Star team. Any reported instances to the league will be monitored by the leagues Executive Board and may be escalated to the District Commissioner.
How long is the All-Star season?
All-Star season (Championship Season) will begin shortly after the completion of the recreational season (dependent on season end date set by the board) through at least Fourth of July. Could possibly extend to the end of July early August, dependent on births to play at States and or Nationals.
What is the time commitment for All-Stars?
All-Star teams will likely practice multiple days a week, for multiple hours per day. On average 4-6 days per week, dependent on tournament participation and scheduling.
When are the tournaments scheduled?
Tournaments are scheduled almost every weekend throughout the All-Star season to include holiday weekends. Teams should be prepared to travel for tournaments and play commencing on Fridays and ending late into Sunday evenings. Tournaments will be scheduled to be played in and around San Diego County to include neighboring county's such as Orange, Riverside, LA, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Kern and Imperial County.
